Biography

Family and Education

Juliette Anne Solange Armanet is the daughter of composer Jean-Pierre Armanet and a pianist mother. She grew up in Villeneuve-d'Ascq and lived in Le Pecq, near Paris, where she frequently listened to artists like Alain Bashung, Barbara, and Alain Souchon. She attended the private Catholic school Le Bon-Sauveur in Le Vésinet, then continued her studies in literature at the preparatory school Lycée Jeanne-d'Albret in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Juliette has family roots in Biot, in the Alpes-Maritimes region, where her grandparents' house is located, and she spent significant moments there as a child. Her grandmother Paulette, who had a love for piano, passed away in 2023 from Alzheimer’s disease. In 2009, Juliette dedicated a documentary to her titled Les Enfants d'Alzheimer, a film she later discussed while grieving her loss on the show Sept à Huit.

Juliette studied literature and theater, attempting the entrance exam for the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art three times before taking courses at the Asnières drama school. She worked for six years as a journalist and made documentaries for Arte and France Culture (Les Pieds sur Terre). She also worked for two years on the TF1 program 50 Minutes Inside.

Artistic Journey

Juliette Armanet began composing music at the age of 14. She never learned music theory and composes everything by ear. In 2014, she won the inRocKs Lab 2014 music competition organized by Les Inrocks. On April 7, 2017, she released her first album, Petite Amie, under the Barclay label[4]. Radio France Internationale described it as "a debut album with a lingering, classical, and surprising sensitivity, both bold and precise, melancholic and danceable." She was hailed as "one of the most talented new voices of French chanson" by Le Figaro and as the "hidden daughter of Sanson and Berger, as well as the heir to Souchon and Sheller" by Paris Match. In early 2017, she was recognized as the "breakthrough of the French music scene" by France Inter and a member of the "new wave of French chanson" by Les Inrockuptibles.

In October 2017, she was honored at the 25th edition of the Nuits de Champagne festival in Troyes, where she notably performed William Sheller’s Un homme heureux, later broadcast on France Inter. Her album Petite Amie won the "Revelation Album of the Year" award at the Victoires de la Musique on February 9, 2018[5][6][7][8].

Juliette performed Les Moulins de mon cœur at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and reprised the song on the show Quotidien in honor of Michel Legrand in January 2019[9].

In June 2018, during the show 28 Minutes on Arte, presented by Élisabeth Quin, writer-composer Yves Simon named her as one of his "companions on the road." On March 8, 2019, Arte aired her concert recorded at the Gaîté-Lyrique in 2018.

In December 2020, she participated in a tribute concert to Christophe at the Théâtre Auditorium de Poitiers alongside other artists such as Malik Djoudi and Philippe Katerine. The concert recording was broadcast on Arte in early 2021[10].

In January 2022, she was nominated for the 37th Victoires de la Musique in the categories of Female Artist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Audiovisual Creation.

Recent Work

In November 2022, Juliette released a new version of her album, Brûler le feu, available as a CD or double vinyl album with five new unreleased tracks: Flamme, Fuguer, À quoi tu joues?, Michel, and Ce que l’on cache. These were sold in pre-orders on her website along with a choice of four signed lithographs and a tattoo card featuring the four designs from the album's theme.

From winter 2022 to spring 2023, she toured France’s Zénith venues and held a major concert at the Accor Arena in Paris for her Brûler le feu tour, with all concerts selling out quickly. The March 17, 2023, concert at the Accor Arena, which was broadcast live on Canal+, was interrupted by a fire alarm.

On July 26, 2024, she performed Imagine by John Lennon, accompanied by Sofiane Pamart on piano, aboard a barge sailing on the Seine during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics[11].

Personal Life

Juliette Armanet gave birth to a son named Abel on November 15, 2018. Her partner, Florent Jacob, a lighting designer, is the father of the child. She has cherished moments at her family home in Biot, where she enjoys spending time with her son.
