Snail Shell Cave in Rockvale is a large and biologically important cave owned and managed by the Southeastern Cave Conservancy. The cave system drains over 100 square miles (260 km2) of land and the water re-emerges at a major spring on the Stones River.

Rockvale is home to three schools, Rockvale High School for grades 9-12, Rockvale Middle School for grades 6–8, and Rockvale Elementary school for grades PreK-5.
