Patriofelis (Патриофелис — „отац свих мачака”) је изумрли род плаценталних сисара, из изумрле потпородице Oxyaeninae унутар изумрле породице Oxyaenidae, који је у периоду од раног до средњег еоцена настањивао подручје Сјеверне Америке.^[11]^[12]^[13]^[14]

Опис

Врсте из рода Patriofelis су биле велики копнени предатори величине данашње пуме, који су по својој грађи тјела наликовале на представнике породице мачке. Имале су дуги реп и кратке ноге са широким стопалима. Стопала су им помагала при стабилном ходу по меканом и растеситом тлу. Ове врсте су се кретале плантиградно. Лобање ови врста су биле кратке и дужине око 25 cm. Вилице су биле кратке и снажне, са скраћеним сјекутићима и са великим и масивним очњацима. Зубна формула код врсти из овог рода је ?.1.3.13.1.3.2.^[16] Горњи карнасални зуби су формирали облик оштрице. Први пар горњи и доњи преткутњака (P₁/p₁) и други пар горњи кутњака (M₂) није присутан у вилицама. Са својим зубима су могле да жваћу месо и да ломе кости. Ове врсте су достизале дужину од 1,2 до 1,8 m (притом не рачунајући дужину репа) и тежину од 30 до 100 kg.^[13] Укупна дужина тјела коју су ове врсте могле да достигну је била око 2,5 m, а у раменима су ове врте биле високе око 70 сm.

Понашање и палеоекологија

Врсте из рода Patriofelis су се понашале сличано данашњем јагуару и свој плијен вребале из засједе заскачући га.^[17]^[18] Ове врсте нису биле прилагођене брзом трчању.^[13]
