Roman yazarı William Saroyan, onun kuzeni ve "ömür boyu" arkadaşıydı.[5][6][7] Bagdasarian, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri Ordusu Hava Kuvvetleri'nde kurmay çavuş olarak görev yaptı. II.Dünya Savaşı sırasında Avrupa'da görev aldı. Sahne adı "David Seville", İspanya'nın Seville şehrinde askerlik yapmış olmasından gelmektedir.[8]
